2:31Uh, my request is to, uh, we— it's— I am requesting, rather, for the assistance in the purchase of one evacuation chair known as the brand name of Stryker.
2:42Uh, and this would help support our students with mobility limitations.
2:46Currently, Diamond Regional And with the help of this Commission, 3 other chairs were purchased and were placed in the— what I'm now calling the old Diamond, which as we speak right now is being dismantled.
3:00It kind of breaks my heart in a way.
3:03However, with our brand new building and the expansion that we have here, meaning it's a much larger building, we have more areas to cover and a higher number of floors.
3:15The old building had 2 floors, so the evacuation chairs were used to help transport anyone needing help from the 2nd floor down to the 1st floor and out of the building.
3:26This floor, in essence, is a 4-story building with one— so the need for just one more chair because of the numerous staircases, we can cover 3, one would give us the ability to cover a 4th stairway in the event of an emergency evacuation in order to help any person faculty member, visit to the building, could be a student with mobility issues, any one of those, to evacuate the building safely.
3:57And that's what my request is for.
3:59In pricing them out, they run approximately $3,000, and that's an approximation.
4:06There are some that are less expensive, there are some much more expensive, but I, I've seen when I've done my research that the median price is just about $3,000.
4:16So my request is for— if the advice— if we can get assistance with purchasing that, um, I would certainly appreciate it on behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of Diamond Regional.

11:34No, we didn't reach out to that because I was referred back to the City of Fall River's Commission on Disability because of the origination of the 3 chairs that we have.
11:46And I know that your commission is very active in protecting the interests of those who are disabled or have disability or mobility issues.

19:18If the New Bedford Commission on Disability had an issue, New Bedford Voc must serve a number of communities besides New Bedford, and I think they would have the same issue if somebody were to come before the New Bedford Commission with the same request.

19:49I don't think there's any, and I'm not sure other than the Mass Office on Disability, I'm not sure who came up with that position that it could only be used exclusively for Fall River residents.
